To Mom
To Mom

I remember lullabies,

that sad "first day of school" good-bye,

and "Sleep Tight.  Don't let those bedbugs bite".

I remember clover chains,

hugs to heal my aches and pains.

and "I'm here, Sweetie.

Everything's all right".

I remember cookie dough

and making ice cream out of snow,

and finger paintings

you'd hang on the fridge.

I remember your perfume,

your jewelry box, your big bedroom,

your putting lipstick on me -

just a smidge.

I remember your warm hands,

the sparkle of your wedding band,

your smile, your laughter,

rich as they could be,

I wished so much to be like you,

and you know what, Mom?  I still do.

I'm thankful and I'm proud.

Love always, Me.
